Contact

Contact is the charity for families with disabled children. Through Indigo, I’ve made them a series of animated explainers covering health, benefits and education, translated into Arabic, Polish and Somali to reach the UK’s most diverse families.

Strep A animated explainer

I wrote, designed and animated this series of explainers for Contact, tackling Strep A, RSV and Disability Living Allowance in plain English for stretched parents, then re-versioned each one in Arabic, Polish and Somali to reach the families Contact actually supports.

Deliverables: Animated explainer series & translated edits in Arabic, Polish and Somali

The challenge.

Contact came to Indigo with a problem every charity faces but few solve well: how do you explain complicated information, Strep A symptoms, RSV in young children, the rules around Disability Living Allowance, to families who are already stretched, often exhausted, and whose first language might not be English? The films had to be unmistakably warm, plain in their language, and accessible to families navigating life with a disabled child for the first time.

My role.

An Indigo project with an unusually short credits list. I concepted the series, wrote the scripts, designed the artwork, animated every frame and commissioned the voiceover. Animation was the right choice because it carries warmth and clarity at once, and it gave me a single visual world to re-version for every audience without another shoot. I worked closely with Contact’s specialists to make sure every fact was right and every line was as plain as it could be without being patronising. With the English masters locked, I commissioned new narration in Arabic, Polish and Somali and re-cut each film, keeping the visual language identical so the story landed the same way every time.

The impact.

The films landed, and they kept landing. The first animation in the series clocked over 14,000 plays in its first few months alone, and the series has become a permanent part of how Contact reaches the families it supports: shared through the helpline, embedded across the website, played at community events, and re-shared every year as new families come into the charity’s care. The translated editions opened doors other formats couldn’t reach, and Contact keep coming back to Indigo with new topics for the same template. That’s the review that counts.
